Nothing Fancy, Just Good Grub!

On Friday, July 15^th, the Poor People’s Pub BI held a benefit night in honor of Matt Fortuna, an island worker who was emergency air lifted off island due to an unknown medical condition. Though it is Matt’s first season on Block Island, he and his brother Zack have made many friends in just a short amount of time. On Friday the bar was packed all night long with people showing their support for the Pub regular. $1 for every draft beer sold (376 beers!) went to the cause, and thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended and donated, we raised $5605 for Matt’s medical expenses. Special thanks to the bartenders from The National for donating 100% of their tips from that day, as well as Eli’s for supplying a gift certificate for the winner of the 50/50 raffle.

We will continue to send positive thoughts for a quick and full recovery, and we hope to see Tuna back on the island very soon!
